Additional Grant & Support Opportunities
Our primary grantmaking is dedicated to the Program Focus Areas. However, we also offer additional grant opportunities that support the development of an equity ecosystem where equity in education can become a reality.
We are deeply concerned for those who are targeted by White Supremacist, sexist, xenophobic, and homophobic actions and language. As an organization, we aspire to meet hatred with love and action, divisiveness with community-building and inclusion, and ignorance with education and support. As communities in Connecticut continue to organize to oppose racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, Islamophobia, and other systems of oppression unleashed by the outgoing President for the last four years, we want to offer support.
In response, the Memorial Fund is offering immediate support to communities in Connecticut responding to current and emerging threats, trauma and/or harassment related to these manifestations of hate and bias and oppression.
We invite you to apply for funding and/or meeting space to give immediate, urgent support to these communities. This support could include gatherings, nonviolent direct action, crisis response or therapeutic support that address the physical, social, emotional wellbeing and safety being threatened.

The William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund is fortunate to be able to provide modest support for special community projects. Grants of up to $5,000 are made at the discretion of the executive director, and grants of up to $10,000 are made at the discretion of the lead trustee and the executive director.

Although the discretionary grants are not restricted by the guidelines of our strategic requests for proposal processes, please pay attention to our mission and strategic approaches in order to know what we will likely find worth funding outside of our current grant options.
The Racial Equity Training and Support Grant provides up to $10,000 for groups interested in either engaging in a training about structural racism, creating spaces for racial affinity groups, or seeking to build upon a previous racial equity training.
Before you begin to fill out the online application:
- Have your organization’s or fiscal sponsor’s 501(c)3 information available
- Tax ID number
- Electronic IRS Letter of Determination (to be uploaded)
- Have budget information available
- Total budget for training
- Request Amount for the Memorial Fund
- Other Funding Sources
- Projected Expenses (This should correspond to the total project budget)

In an effort to support the disruptive and transformative work that leads to equity in education the Memorial Fund has designed a Technical Assistance (TA) request process for our Equity Program Grant Partners. This TA support is intended to enhance technical skills, expand social networks and strengthen organizational stability, especially when resources are not available through existing grant. Memorial Fund Equity Program Grant Partners can request up to $4,000 of TA support annually for:
A. Training and Skill Building: this type of request is meant to enhance or provide addtional professional development opportunities for paid and volunteer staff, engaged leaders (parents, youth, community), and board members to build skills, and for specialized knowledge.
B. Coaching: this type of request is meant to cover or offset the cost of one-to-one coaching support with field experts or process experts. Grantees will choose coaches at their own discretion based on the needs of their organization.
C. Organizational Development: this type of request is meant to support the long-term development of the grantee group’s structure, and capacity. This may include supporting process facilitators for reflection and planning efforts or support to help build and stabilize the group's infrastructure.
D. Healing and wellness: this type of request is meant to support efforts that address the well-being of grantee paid and volunteer staff, engaged leaders (parents, youth, community), and board members directly involved the work.
Key review and decision making will consider:
•Relevance to efforts described in your grant Memorandum of Agreement
•Alignment with Memorial Fund’s mission and Program Focus Areas
•Availability of limited TA resources
•Request for work that has already been completed or work that you have proposed to complete as part of your current grant will not be considered
•Extent to which the requested TA is time limited and not part of ongoing day-to-day operations
This is not a grant. If approved, the Memorial Fund will pay selected TA provider’s invoices directly or reimburse for expenses paid by the grantee.
