Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition

The Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition, BCAC, founded in 1985, is a coalition of 81 member organizations. BCAC's member organizations are committed to improving the well being of Bridgeport children through a program combining research, community planning, advocacy, community education and mobilization. BCAC promotes policies and programs to ensure that Bridgeport's children have the opportunity to grow up healthy and safe and to receive the education and skills to reach their full potential. BCAC works to increase awareness of regional interconnections and to develop solutions to meet the needs of all children.

BCAC brings together an extensive network of grassroots parents, community leaders, human service providers and government officials to work together collaboratively to gather and share information on the needs of children, to identify unmet and emerging needs and issues, and to work together toward their solution. BCAC staff work with community-based Task Forces to research issues important to the children of Bridgeport. The Task Forces then take this information directly to parents and community leaders across the city. Armed with facts and statistics, BCAC helps to mobilize parents, community leaders and service providers to advocate for policy and systems changes to improve outcomes for children and their families.

BCAC works through six different Task Forces active in the area of early childhood development, education, health, maternal addition, violence prevention and public policy. Each Task Force is an active, working collaborative composed of parents, community leaders, service providers and government officials. Task Forces range in size from 25 to 60 members. More than 400 people are active each year through BCAC's various Task Forces.
