Meriden CFI created this position to ensure that all Meriden children come to school ready to learn and be successful. The outreach coordinator helps minorities in Meriden access existing resources, works with the Bookmobile, meets regularly with other community outreach workers, and coordinates with Literacy Volunteers.

Meriden made a commitment to help parents learn about the community and gain access to programs and information. The directory is an annual publication that helps parents feel connected to the community. A side benefit of the directory is that agencies and organizations became more aware of each other, leading to collaborative efforts and better programs for families.

Helping Hands is a program in New London that aims to provide support for area childcare providers and parents who have children who exhibit disruptive, aggressive, and inappropriate behavior in the classroom and at home.

The Norwich CFI recruited and trained new childcare providers to create additional home-based childcare in the community.

For four years, Danbury has held a Multicultural Parents' Day. At the event, children from the community have a talent show. There is also an art and essay contest. Parents from diverse backgrounds come together to discuss the common goal of success for all children in Danbury. Over 400 people have participated in each event, and it has helped to bring the diverse citizens of Danbury closer.

To give working parents more options for the care of the very young, the Norwich CFI supported the effort to evaluate the need for and to build a new childcare facility that would care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

Families in Meriden felt there was a lack of awareness of resources and services available in the community and in response formed the Parent Information Bureau to increase awareness.

|
Parents in Danbury identified parenting education as a priority. A variety of parenting education courses were available, but there were still some gaps in training opportunities. The ParentNet was created to meet that need. ParentNet provides parent education in four-week sessions open to all parents in the community. Childcare and transportation are available.

|
Families in Norwich needed more childcare providers in the community. The Norwich CFI worked with the public school system to create additional before- and after-school childcare at the city's elementary schools.
